Hi,
For years I've had a home office set-up where the Notes Client SMTP'd mail to and Pop'd mail from my ISP and then replicated with the Domino Server via scheduled replication.
Recently I decided to make the home office simulate a real world environment by configuring the Domino Server to route SMTP mail directly to the ISP and using PopWeasel to Pop mail from the ISP and route via SMTP to the Domino Server. The Notes Client no longer acts as a Pop client and now accesses my mail on the Domino Server.
This all works fine ... except that my friendly email address, "Robert Fairhead" <robertf@rocher.com.au>, set correctly in the Location document, is "ignored" by the Domino Server. I use the quotes, because Domino does use the Location document email address, but not as the Reply To address. Instead the From details appear as:
Robert_Fairhead/Rocher/AU@rocher.com.au
Sent by: "Robert Fairhead" <robertf@rocher.com.au>
If you do a reply, the To is set to:
Robert_Fairhead/Rocher/AU@rocher.com.au
I spent hours on this, double checking the:
> Mail database owner
> Location documnet Internet Mail Address
> Global Domain document - numerous variations on Enabling/Disabling Internet address lookup
> Person document Internet Address and User Name
I even double checked my name in my User ID!
Tweaking these things did have some effect, but none moved me closer to the desired result, ie. my friendly email reply to address.
Naturally I trawled the Forums for a solution. But again, most suggestions centred on the Location document Internet Mail Address setting, which I knew was correct (as it has been for years!).
Then I checked the email in the outgoing mail.box and discovered that while its InetFrom was set correct, InetPrincipal was set to the invalid email address. I search for InetPrincipal on the Forum and stumbled accross this response by Matt Chant on "What sets $InetPrincipal":

In the same thread, Darren Crocker contributed a suggestion on stripping out the unwanted field:
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/46dom.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/10d2bee9a1e7f35585256aa1002f0103?OpenDocument
These 2 posts pointed me towards the solution. First I stripped out $InetPrincipal. This resulted in an email with the From details as:
Robert_Fairhead@rocher.com.au
Sent by: "Robert Fairhead" <robertf@rocher.com.au>
Checking the email in mail.box, I found that the Principal field was being used for the From/Reply To address. I stripped this from the email and, with loud whoops of joy, achieved the desired result. The From/Reply To is now:
Robert Fairhead <robertf@rocher.com.au>
But is this a solution or a work around? I thought Domino was supposed to use the Internet Address from the Location document? And if it doesn't, why doesn't the Global Domain document setting for converting Internet addresses work? And why does Notes think that I'm not the Mail database owner and shove in Location documnet Internet address as "Sent by"?
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and/or, better still, can answer some of queries. If not, hopefully this post will help point others towards a solution/work around for their own problems.
Regards,
Robert Fairhead
